India’s women’s cricket team is set to begin its campaign in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup with the aim of rediscovering its rhythm after an inconsistent run in T20 cricket this year. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will face Thailand in its opening Group A match on Sunday. India have enjoyed a strong record in the T20 Asia Cup, winning three of the five editions played in the format. However, the team’s current form remains a concern, with India losing nine of their 16 T20 matches this year. With the Asian Games also scheduled next month, the tournament provides an important opportunity for the team to build confidence and regain consistency.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s form will be closely watched, while Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma provide India with a strong opening combination. The middle order will need to maintain the momentum created by the openers. Fielding is another area where India will look for improvement. The spin department features Telugu player Sri Charani, Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav, while Renuka Singh, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Goud and Nandani Sharma add depth to the pace attack. Thailand are not expected to pose a major challenge, making the clash an opportunity for India to start strongly. Group A also includes Hong Kong and Pakistan, with Pakistan likely to provide the toughest challenge.
