The Bangladesh Cricket Board has been asked to make a final decision within 24 hours regarding its participation in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. In a statement released on Wednesday, the International Cricket Council confirmed that Bangladesh’s scheduled Group C matches will remain in India and will not be shifted to Sri Lanka. The ICC clarified that there are no security concerns for the Bangladesh team in India, and therefore the team is expected to travel and compete as planned.
Bangladesh cricket has faced a turbulent period in recent weeks, marked by uncertainty and internal challenges. Ongoing diplomatic tensions with neighboring countries led the board to place several conditions on its participation, leaving its World Cup involvement in doubt.
However, with the ICC standing firm on its position, the BCB now finds itself with limited options. Reports suggest that the global governing body is prepared to explore replacements or even treat Bangladesh’s matches as forfeited if a decision is not made in time.
The situation is further complicated by disagreements between the cricket board and the country’s interim government, making it difficult to arrive at a unified resolution. Players, meanwhile, appear largely unaware of developments, adding to the instability. The uncertainty has also begun to affect commercial commitments, with potential losses in sponsorships and endorsements.
A final call is expected later today, which could determine the immediate future of Bangladesh cricket. While a resolution is imminent, optimism around the outcome remains limited.
