The fourth T20 match between Team India and South Africa, scheduled to be played on Wednesday in Lucknow, was called off due to heavy fog. The weather conditions did not improve throughout the evening, and as a result, even the toss could not take place. The umpires inspected the ground multiple times and conducted a final inspection at 9:25 PM, after which they officially announced the abandonment of the match. Disappointed fans were then asked to leave the stadium.
Several spectators expressed their frustration over the cancellation. Many said they had purchased tickets after making significant efforts and demanded a refund of the ticket amount. Some fans, however, stated that a refund alone was not enough, as they had come specifically to watch Team India play live.
Given that Lucknow has been experiencing foggy conditions for the past few days, some fans and observers felt the match could have been scheduled in the afternoon instead of the evening to avoid such issues. According to the BCCI refund policy, if a match is abandoned without a single ball being bowled, spectators are eligible for a full ticket refund.
Meanwhile, Axar Patel missed the fourth and fifth T20 matches due to illness, while Shubman Gill was ruled out because of injury. The fifth and final T20 of the series is scheduled to be held on December 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India currently leads the five-match T20 series 2–1. With the fourth match abandoned, India cannot lose the series. If India wins the final T20, the series will end 3–1 in India’s favor. If South Africa wins, the series will be levelled 2–2.
