The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini auction will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16 (Tuesday). The auction will be held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi and will begin at 2:30 pm (Indian time). A total of 350 players will participate in the auction, with ten franchises competing to strengthen their teams. With big names like Cameron Green, Venkatesh Iyer and Liam Livingstone in the auction, it is expected that big prices will be paid.
Cameron Green has been the subject of much discussion ahead of this auction. There is a rumor that he could get a bid that exceeds the huge price that Mitchell Starc received in the past. However, no matter how much Green gets in the auction, his salary for this season will be limited to Rs. 18 crore. This is because of the ‘maximum fee rule’ in force in the IPL. The maximum salary that can be offered to a foreign player in the mini auction is only Rs. 18 crore, which is the highest retention slab. Any bid exceeding that amount will be deducted from the team purse and will not be counted as the player's salary.
A total of 77 vacant slots have to be filled by ten teams in this auction. For this, a total purse of Rs. 237.55 crore is available with the teams. Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders are entering the auction with the highest purse of Rs. 64.30 crore. While Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are also ready to bid with good purses, Mumbai Indians are in a situation where they have to be careful with just Rs. 2.75 crore.
