Asian Games 2026:Indian Athletes Face Initial Hurdles After Reaching Nagoya

Indian athletes have started arriving in Nagoya, Japan, ahead of the 2026 Asian Games. Wushu and table tennis players, along with a few badminton shuttlers, reached the city on Wednesday. However, some initial difficulties were reported at the venue during the registration process, as the names of a few members of the Indian Wushu contingent were reportedly missing from the registration records. An Indian Olympic Association official later clarified that accommodation had been arranged for all the athletes on an Italian cruise ship. Indian table tennis players are also staying on the ship during the Games, while the Wushu and table tennis competitions are scheduled to begin on Sunday.

Accommodation arrangements for the Asian Games have also come under criticism. A South Korean official reportedly described the arrangements as poor and expressed concerns over a possible shortage of rooms. One Indian table tennis player said that their team also had to wait for a considerable amount of time before receiving rooms on the ship. The Asian Games are scheduled to begin on September 19 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with athletes from across Asia expected to participate in the multi-sport event.
