Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the INDIA bloc’s ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ rally held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday. Rahul Gandhi claimed that Gyanesh Kumar would be removed from his post and sent to jail, adding that Modi and Shah would also face legal action. Addressing a large gathering of opposition leaders, party workers and supporters, he said the movement was not driven by hatred or violence but by the desire to protect people’s freedom, democracy and the Constitution. Leaders of several INDIA bloc parties, including the Congress, Left parties, Samajwadi Party, RJD, Trinamool Congress, National Conference and other regional parties, took part in the rally after marching from Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence towards the venue in open vehicles.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that votes had been stolen through manipulation of electronic voting machines and voter lists in several state Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He claimed that 13.5 crore voters had been removed from electoral rolls after the 2024 elections and questioned the fairness of the process. He accused the Election Commission of undermining people’s voting rights through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and described the alleged irregularities as a serious offence. He also criticised the RSS, alleging that it had gained influence over various institutions, and claimed that the country’s wealth was increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few industrialists. Referring to alleged differences in the treatment of wealthy borrowers and ordinary citizens, he said his party would oppose such inequality. Rahul asserted that the Opposition would continue its efforts to protect democracy and the Constitution and said those responsible for electoral wrongdoing would have to face the law.
He further stated that the gathering represented the voices of young people, farmers and workers rather than merely those of political parties. Emphasising that no one was above the Constitution, he said the INDIA bloc would continue its campaign through peaceful democratic means. Rahul also reiterated that the Opposition would not allow democracy to be weakened or constitutional rights to be undermined.
