Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Election Commission over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He alleged that Modi was not being elected by voters, but was instead choosing the voters through the SIR process. Kharge claimed that efforts were being made to remove the names of people who were opposed to the Prime Minister from electoral rolls. He also accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of supporting these alleged attempts and demanded that he step down. Kharge asserted that the Opposition would continue its fight until the CEC was held accountable.
Kharge further alleged that central agencies such as the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) were being used to intimidate Opposition leaders. He said that such pressure tactics would not frighten them or weaken their campaign. Calling for those responsible for alleged vote theft to be removed from power, he urged people to stand together to protect their voting rights and democracy. He reiterated that the Opposition would not remain silent over what it considers irregularities in the electoral process.
