Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP over alleged irregularities involving donations collected in Ayodhya. He accused those responsible of misusing devotees’ contributions and said they would face the consequences. Referring to the BJP’s description of its government as a “double-engine government”, Akhilesh claimed that voters in Varanasi had delivered a setback to the party in the recent Legislative Council elections by ensuring defeats in both seats. He used the election outcome to question the BJP’s political strength in the region.
Akhilesh Yadav further predicted that the BJP would face more electoral setbacks in the coming days. He said the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections would mark the end of the political dominance of two senior leaders, in an apparent reference to the BJP’s top leadership. His remarks come amid continuing political exchanges between the Samajwadi Party and the BJP over electoral performance, governance and the allegations surrounding donations in Ayodhya.
