West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a strong attack on the Election Commission over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. She alleged that West Bengal had become a victim of the exercise and claimed that more than one crore votes had been deleted from the voter lists. Describing the SIR process as a “Special Intensive Relief” for the BJP, she accused those responsible of manipulating the electoral process to benefit the ruling party at the Centre. Mamata asserted that her party had not lost the election on its own but had been deliberately made to lose through alleged irregularities.
Mamata Banerjee warned that those responsible for the alleged deletion of votes would not be spared and said her party would respond politically. Taking a direct swipe at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, whom she referred to as “Vanish Kumar”, she said he would eventually have to face the consequences. Her remarks reflect the growing political confrontation between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP over the SIR exercise and the allegations surrounding voter-list revisions in West Bengal.
