Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra has spoken about the circumstances surrounding his international career, saying he did not get another opportunity with the national team despite regaining fitness after an injury. In an interview with Aakash Chopra, Mishra alleged that assurances given by then coach Anil Kumble and captain Virat Kohli were not followed through. Recalling a leg injury he suffered in Bengaluru, Mishra said Kumble had advised him not to worry and told him that he could return to the team once he regained fitness. He also approached Kohli, who had recently taken over as captain, to ask what he needed to do to make a comeback.
Mishra said he contacted Kohli after recovering from the injury but received no response. According to Mishra, Kohli initially said he would provide an update within a week or ten days, but no further communication followed despite repeated calls and messages. Eventually, Mishra decided to stop pursuing the matter. He also expressed disappointment that other cricketers who had recovered from serious injuries were given opportunities to return to the team, while he was not. Mishra, who was recently appointed spin-bowling coach of Delhi Capitals, shared these recollections while discussing his international career and the lack of clarity surrounding his return to the Indian side.
