Indian Railways has reportedly achieved a significant milestone by connecting Rowghat, a remote area in Chhattisgarh, to the national railway network. The 95-kilometre Dalli Rajhara–Rowghat railway project, developed at a reported cost of ₹1,628 crore, aims to improve transport access in southern Chhattisgarh. The opening of the final 17.5-kilometre section between Tadoki and Rowghat marks a major step towards improving connectivity for communities that have long faced transport challenges.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai attended the inauguration, while Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joined through video conferencing. Two passenger train services—Rowghat–Raipur and Raipur–Kurud—were flagged off as part of the event, according to the information provided. A foundation stone was also laid for a modern electric locomotive maintenance facility in Raipur, reflecting efforts to strengthen railway infrastructure and maintenance capacity in the state.
The new railway line is expected to support industrial activity by improving the movement of iron ore from the Rowghat region to major industries, including the Bhilai Steel Plant. Better freight connectivity could help reduce transportation difficulties, support regional development and create employment opportunities. Chief Minister Sai also highlighted the railway funding allocated to Chhattisgarh, stating that improved connectivity could help residents access education, healthcare, jobs and markets more easily. The project is therefore expected to benefit both local communities and the wider industrial economy.
