

Cyclone Montha, which recently struck Andhra Pradesh, caused extensive damage across multiple sectors, with total losses estimated at Rs 6,352 crore, according to state ministers Nara Lokesh and Home Minister Anita. The ministers met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and submitted a detailed report on the cyclone’s impact.
According to their briefing, the cyclone severely disrupted daily life and damaged key infrastructure. On the night of October 28, the storm made landfall near Kakinada with wind speeds reaching 100 kmph, accompanied by heavy rainfall.
The state government immediately initiated rescue operations, shifting nearly 1.92 lakh people to 2,471 relief camps. Essential supplies including food, drinking water, milk, and other necessities were provided. Each affected family received an immediate relief of Rs 3,000.
Post-cyclone measures such as clearing fallen trees, arranging temporary shelters, and restoring water supply were taken up swiftly. The government also released Rs 60 crore as immediate relief.
Sector-wise losses:
Agriculture and allied sectors: Rs 271 crore
Housing damage: Rs 7 crore
Roads and infrastructure: Rs 4,324 crore
Power sector: Rs 41 crore
Water resources and irrigation: Rs 369 crore
Permanent structures: Rs 1,302 crore
Public assets: Rs 48 crore
Out of the total Rs 6,356 crore loss, Rs 902 crore qualifies for immediate relief and temporary restoration under NDRF norms, Lokesh said. He added that a central IMCT team already conducted a field inspection based on the report submitted on the 12th of this month. Minister Anita and MPs from the state were also part of the delegation meeting Amit Shah.
