Andhra Pradesh Congress chief Y. S. Sharmila launched strong criticism against YSRCP president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, alleging that his party’s support to certain bills reflects a growing proximity with the BJP. She claimed that backing such bills raises concerns about commitment to constitutional values. According to her, Jagan’s political decisions appear to be influenced by the need to secure relief in ongoing cases, leading to alignment with the leadership of Narendra Modi.
Sharmila questioned whether such actions align with the legacy of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, stating that public interest should take precedence over political considerations. She also pointed out that supporting the ruling alliance while claiming opposition status sends mixed signals to the public.
On the issue of women’s reservation, she clarified that the bill had already been passed earlier and should not be linked with other legislative matters. She added that opposition parties had raised concerns specifically regarding the delimitation-related proposals. Concluding her remarks, Sharmila asserted that the Congress party remains the only genuine opposition force in the state.
