

Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek continued their strong campaigns at the US Open by securing comfortable wins in the women’s singles second round. Sabalenka defeated Russia’s Polina Kudermetova 6-1, 6-1 after dominating the match from the opening games. She broke her opponent’s serve six times and produced 24 winners and three aces. Swiatek also advanced with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory over Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska. Noskova, Muchova, Kostyuk, Osaka, Svitolina and Potapova also progressed to the third round.
In the men’s singles, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz had to recover after losing the opening set 4-6 to Portugal’s Jaime Faria. The Spaniard responded strongly, winning the next three sets 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 to book his place in the third round. Francisco Comesana, who stunned Novak Djokovic in the opening round, continued his run by defeating Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in four sets. Denis Shapovalov, Alexander Bublik and eighth seed Ben Shelton also advanced, while Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jaume Munar moved into the next round.
