Municipal elections in Telangana are increasingly reflecting the rising cost and intensity of state politics. With polling scheduled for today, election campaigning has reached a fever pitch across several districts, especially in Karimnagar, where competition among candidates has reportedly taken an aggressive turn. Alongside rallies and door-to-door outreach, allegations of large-scale inducements to voters are surfacing, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.
According to media reports, some candidates in municipal wards are allegedly offering ₹10,000 per vote along with a 25-kg rice bag per household. In certain areas, reports suggest that women voters are being offered ₹5,000, sarees, and even silver ornaments to influence voting decisions. Despite strict election guidelines and repeated warnings from authorities against bribery and inducements, such practices continue to persist, highlighting the growing challenges faced by the election machinery in ensuring free and fair polls.
