Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha MP Dr. Mallu Ravi expressed his gratitude to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for his stand on the Haldwani incident. In a letter to Rahul Gandhi, Ravi described the reported ‘purification’ ceremony at the venue where Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge held a meeting in Haldwani as an act that undermined the dignity of SC and ST communities. He said Rahul Gandhi’s intervention had given confidence to millions of SC and ST people across the country.
Referring to Article 17 of the Constitution, which prohibits untouchability, Mallu Ravi said there is no place for caste discrimination in the constitutional framework. He also expressed concern over the FIR reportedly registered against Rahul Gandhi after he questioned the Haldwani incident. Ravi demanded an impartial and transparent inquiry into the entire episode, including the reported purification ceremony, subsequent complaints and the police response. As an MP from an SC-reserved constituency, he said fighting untouchability, caste discrimination and social humiliation was his constitutional and moral responsibility. He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the principles of equality, liberty and fraternity envisioned by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
