A special NIA court in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, has delivered a key verdict in the 2013 Jhiram Ghati Maoist attack case. The attack in Bastar claimed the lives of 29 people, including several senior Congress leaders, and dealt a major blow to the state’s Congress leadership. After nearly 13 years of proceedings, the court convicted 10 accused in the case.
Three women are among those convicted in the case. However, the court has not announced the sentences yet. The quantum of punishment for all 10 convicts will be announced on September 16. Reports also said that the trial involved the examination of 101 witnesses. The Jhiram Ghati attack remains one of the most significant and tragic Maoist attacks in Chhattisgarh’s political history.
