Political Storm in Tamil Nadu After Udhayanidhi Stalin's Arrest

A political controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu following the arrest of DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin over alleged remarks concerning actress Trisha. Police took Udhayanidhi into custody from his residence and shifted him to the Thanjavur Police Station for questioning. As he was being detained, Udhayanidhi appeared calm and smiling, stating that he was not afraid of the developments and describing the situation as "a joke." The arrest has drawn strong reactions from political parties across the state.

The BJP welcomed the police action, with party leaders alleging that Udhayanidhi's remarks were inappropriate and warranted legal action. Several opposition leaders also criticised his comments. However, the DMK defended its leader, insisting that his speech contained nothing offensive and describing the arrest as an act of political vendetta aimed at preventing him from participating in the upcoming Assembly session. DMK MP Kanimozhi criticised the government over the arrest, while senior leader T.K.S. Elangovan maintained that Udhayanidhi had not directly mentioned Trisha during his speech.
