Political Storm in Karnataka After DK's Phone Call

Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti has sparked a political debate by claiming that Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar called him and asked him to resign from his post. Horatti said he would discuss the matter with BJP and JD(S) leaders before taking any decision. He also asserted that the Council Chairman is elected by the House, not appointed by any political party.

Horatti clarified that his term runs until 2028 and that he cannot be removed unless a no confidence motion is passed in the Council as per legislative rules. He added that at least 10 members must submit a notice 14 days in advance for such a motion. The issue has gained political significance after reports that the Congress leadership has finalized Salim Ahmed's name for the Chairman's post.
