Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a three-day conference on natural farming in Coimbatore, organized by the South India Natural Farming Federation. Speaking at the event, he asserted that India is on its way to becoming a world centre for natural farming. He noted that young people are increasingly viewing agriculture as a modern and expansive opportunity, which will strengthen rural economies.
Governor R. N. Ravi, Union Minister L. Murugan, farmer leader P. R. Pandian and others attended the function. Mr. Modi inaugurated 17 stalls showcasing natural-farming products, and announced the release of ₹18,000 crore under the 21st instalment of the Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi. He also presented Prime Minister’s awards to ten farmers recognized for outstanding contributions to natural farming.
Mr. Modi emphasized that natural farming is rooted in India’s traditions and is environmentally friendly. He said natural farming helps combat climate change, maintain soil health and reduce dependence on harmful chemicals. He highlighted that assistance through the Kisan Credit Card scheme this year has crossed ₹10 lakh crore for farmers, and that under the PM-Kisan scheme around ₹4 lakh crore has so far been transferred directly into small farmers’ bank accounts.
Stressing that expanding natural farming is a 21st-century agricultural necessity, he urged farmers to adopt a one acre–one season approach. He also described South India as a living university for agriculture, home to some of the world’s oldest farming traditions.
