Former US Congresswoman and Republican leader Marjorie Taylor Greene has made a sensational claim that American officials are discussing the possible use of nuclear weapons against Iran in high-level strategy meetings. In a post on X, Greene alleged that the Trump administration was considering lowering the threshold for nuclear weapons use and warned that any such escalation could trigger a much wider global conflict, economic depression and massive humanitarian suffering. However, she did not provide evidence or identify the officials allegedly involved, and there has been no public confirmation from the White House or other US authorities of such a plan.
Greene recalled the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and warned about the long-term consequences of radiation exposure and other health effects. Meanwhile, former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami has called for diplomatic efforts to remove the threat of war and create conditions for lasting peace, warning that prolonged conflict could deepen public dissatisfaction and economic hardship. Separately, claims attributed to senior Iranian commander Ahmad Vahidi that Iran would continue pursuing nuclear weapons while the US and Israel possess them have circulated in media and online; however, those remarks have not been independently verified and were described as inaccurate by Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman.
