BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) has alleged that the Congress government is attempting to discontinue the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak welfare schemes. He accused the government of using the High Court verdict as a pretext to withdraw financial support meant for women from economically weaker families. Questioning why the government failed to file a proper counter in the High Court, KTR said the BRS would continue to fight for the beneficiaries of the scheme. He called on party leaders and cadres to hold protests across Telangana on Monday against the government’s alleged approach.
KTR said the KCR government launched Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak in 2014 to provide financial assistance to families facing the burden of marriage expenses. According to him, the assistance was gradually increased from ₹51,000 to ₹1,00,116, with around 13 lakh families receiving approximately ₹13,000 crore during the previous government. He alleged that the Congress had promised financial assistance along with one tola of gold during the elections but was now attempting to discontinue the scheme instead of strengthening it. KTR demanded that all eligible pending applications be cleared immediately and the financial assistance be released.
