Nishant Kumar, the son of Nitish Kumar, formally joined Janata Dal (United) on Sunday at the party headquarters in Patna. His entry into the party is seen as a sign of generational change in the leadership. The 40 year old engineering graduate was welcomed by senior party leaders and workers, including Union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh and the party’s working president Sanjay Jha.
The development comes soon after Nitish Kumar filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections. According to a close associate of Nitish Kumar, after his resignation, there is a proposal to give Nishant Kumar the post of Deputy Chief Minister in the new government. The move is being viewed as an important step in shaping the party’s future leadership.
