BRS Legislature Party Deputy Leader Harish Rao questioned the Congress government’s concern for the safety of irrigation projects, alleging that large-scale blasting was being carried out without the required permissions near the Mallanna Sagar reservoir embankment. He pointed out that the reservoir was built with substantial public funds to support lakhs of farmers and meet the drinking water needs of North Telangana. On Thursday, Harish Rao visited the Mallanna Sagar reservoir embankment at Tipparam village in Kuknurpally mandal of Siddipet district. He also inspected the intake well being constructed for pipelines and questioned why the government had failed to intervene despite excavation and blasting activities near the embankment.
Harish Rao expressed concern that Mallanna Sagar could face damage similar to the controversy surrounding the Medigadda project, alleging that the reservoir embankment was being put at risk. He asked who would be held accountable if the blasting operations caused damage to the structure. Demanding an immediate halt to the alleged unauthorised activities, he called for strict action against those responsible. He cautioned the government against endangering farmers’ futures and public safety for political reasons. Harish Rao warned that if the government failed to respond promptly, the BRS would mobilise farmers and the public to launch large-scale protests. MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, MLC Yadava Reddy, and BRS leaders Vanteru Pratap Reddy and Errolla Srinivas were among those who accompanied him.
