YSRCP leader Lella Appi Reddy has written to the Central and State Election Commissions, raising concerns about the pension distribution scheduled for October 30 in Andhra Pradesh. He alleged that there was a possibility of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and workers accompanying government employees to beneficiaries’ homes and using the distribution process to influence voters in favour of the ruling party. He urged the election authorities to take preventive measures to ensure that the welfare programme is not used for political campaigning.
In his representation, Appi Reddy requested that pensions be distributed exclusively by government employees and that TDP leaders and party workers be prevented from interfering in the process. He also called for immediate instructions to district collectors, police officials and election authorities to monitor the distribution. He urged the commissions to intervene before the process begins and take strict action if any violations of the Model Code of Conduct are identified. These concerns and allegations were raised by the YSRCP leader in his letter; the requested measures and allegations should not be treated as independently established findings.
