Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has proposed a new population growth incentive scheme aimed at encouraging larger families in the state. Under the proposal, families may receive ₹30,000 for the birth of a third child and ₹40,000 for a fourth child. The government says the move is intended to address the declining fertility rate in Andhra Pradesh and avoid future demographic challenges linked to an ageing population.
However, the proposal has triggered widespread debate across political circles and social media platforms. Critics argue that raising children has become financially difficult due to increasing living costs and that one-time incentives may not provide meaningful long-term support. Some observers also questioned the practicality and political intent behind the scheme, suggesting the government should focus more on education, employment and healthcare. The proposal has now become one of the most discussed topics in Andhra Pradesh politics.
