The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha with the objective of strengthening and modernising the country's birth and death registration system. Despite continuous sloganeering by Opposition members, the Bill was cleared within minutes through a voice vote.
Following the passage of the Bill, the Speaker adjourned the Lok Sabha proceedings until August 3. The Central Government stated that the amendments are aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in maintaining birth and death records, while the Opposition criticised the government for passing the legislation without an extensive discussion.
