BJP Rajya Sabha MP and Padma Shri awardee Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney has called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be honoured with the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award. According to reports, Sahney has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, arguing that Modi deserves the recognition for his 25 years of public service, dedication to the nation and role in enhancing India's image on the global stage.
Sahney also claimed that more than 2,500 Gen Z visitors who attended an exhibition at the National Museum supported the demand to confer the award on Modi. Referring to the fact that nine former prime ministers have received the Bharat Ratna, the BJP MP argued that Modi is also among the deserving candidates. The demand has once again drawn attention to discussions about recognising the contributions of political leaders through the country's highest civilian honour.
