Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has directed Kakinada district officials to formulate permanent solutions to the problems faced by coastal fishermen instead of relying only on temporary measures during cyclones. During a virtual meeting with district officials and residents of coastal villages, he reviewed the impact of Cyclone Arnab, relief operations and the assistance being provided to affected families. He also asked officials to examine the feasibility of providing insurance coverage for fishing boats and prepare suitable proposals. Pawan Kalyan said he would personally visit fishermen’s villages after Diwali to understand their problems.
He instructed officials to expedite the design and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Uppada coastal protection wall and take steps to extend it towards Konapapapeta. He also called for immediate restoration of the damaged Uppada-Kakinada beach road. Reviewing relief measures, he appreciated the administration for relocating more than 10,000 people from 92 coastal habitations to 102 rehabilitation centres. Officials were directed to complete damage assessments covering houses, crops, boats, fishing nets and other affected assets, and submit a comprehensive report for compensation. He also stressed uninterrupted relief supply distribution, restoration of electricity and continued support for affected families. Pawan Kalyan appreciated the police, revenue, municipal, electricity, medical and disaster response teams for their efforts during the cyclone.
