BJP Telangana president Ramchander Rao has clarified that his party is not opposed to the Musi River rejuvenation project but strongly objects to plans that could displace poor families living along the riverbanks. Speaking at a press conference held at the BJP state office in Nampally, he accused the Congress government of spreading misinformation by claiming that the BJP was obstructing the project.
Rao said the government should focus on cleaning and rejuvenating the Musi River without causing damage to the homes of economically weaker families. He questioned the proposed expenditure of thousands of crores on the project, pointing out that the government had cited a lack of funds for employee salaries, pensions and implementation of the Pay Revision Commission (PRC). He asked how the government could arrange such huge amounts for the Musi project when funds were reportedly unavailable for other commitments.
The BJP leader also criticised the opposition's proposed Mock Parliament in Delhi. He accused Congress leaders of undermining democratic institutions for political gains and recalled the party's earlier objections to a similar exercise during the UPA regime. Referring to former Congress leaders' statements describing Parliament as the temple of democracy, he questioned the party's present stand and alleged that such activities were disrespectful to the parliamentary system.
