Kalvakuntla Kavitha, president of Telangana Jagruthi, strongly criticized the linking of the Women’s Reservation Bill with the delimitation process. She called it a major conspiracy and said it is an attempt to block the bill by using women as a cover. According to her, this move is not in the true interest of women’s empowerment.
Kavitha warned that reducing Telangana’s political importance through delimitation will not be accepted. She stated that the state currently holds about 3.13% representation in Parliament and it should remain the same even after delimitation. If the representation decreases, she cautioned that it could lead to another Telangana-style movement.
She also demanded that the Women’s Reservation Bill must include a separate quota for Backward Classes (BCs). She stressed that without proper representation for BC women, the purpose of the bill would not be fulfilled.
