Good news for gig workers across Telangana! The state government, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is preparing to introduce a special welfare law aimed at improving the lives of gig workers — including delivery partners and cab drivers. Labour Minister Vivek Venkataswamy announced that the draft bill for the welfare of gig workers will be presented in the Cabinet meeting on November 12, and once approved, it will be introduced in the Assembly. Speaking after a review meeting with aggregators, gig workers, and trade unions at the Secretariat, the minister said, “We understand the challenges faced by gig workers and are committed to standing by them.”
He added that the government is reviewing how to implement minimum wages for gig workers who often work with multiple platforms — such as Zomato and Swiggy — within the same day.
“The government will hold further discussions with aggregators to arrive at a fair solution,” he said, adding that any necessary amendments will be made even after the law comes into effect.
This move is being seen as a major relief for thousands of gig workers who have long been seeking social and financial security.
