Census to Begin Early in Four Poll-Bound States

The Central government has decided to conduct the Census ahead of schedule in four states where elections are due. According to a Gazette notification, the exercise will be carried out early in Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand. The move comes as these states prepare for their upcoming electoral schedules.

The Census will be conducted across the four states from December 1 to January 4, according to the government’s announcement. The Centre has also clarified that the Census exercise in Manipur has been postponed. Further details regarding the process and schedule will be implemented as per the notified guidelines.
