State Bank of India (SBI) is set to expand its workforce and branch network further. SBI Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty said the bank plans to recruit around 11,000–12,000 employees during the current financial year, primarily across clerical and officer cadres. The hiring plan takes into account employee retirements as well as the bank’s growing operational requirements.
SBI also plans to strengthen its extensive branch network by opening around 200–250 new branches this financial year. As of March 2026, the bank’s total employee strength had crossed 2.45 lakh, while it recruited 25,633 people during the previous financial year. Meanwhile, SBI and its subsidiary SBI Capital Markets Ltd are set to jointly sell a 1% stake in the National Stock Exchange’s proposed ₹30,000-crore IPO.
