Minister Gottipati Ravikumar announced that, for the first time in 26 years since the formation of the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC), the coalition government has implemented a truedown of electricity charges. He said that by reducing the charges, the government will bear the burden itself so that citizens are not affected.
For the fourth regulatory period (2019-20 to 2023-24), the government will cover Rs. 3,398 crore of the true-up burden, preventing it from being passed on to the public. The minister explained: “We are working to reduce electricity purchase costs and accordingly lower the charges. The previous YSRCP government increased electricity charges by Rs. 32,166 crore over five years, placing a heavy burden on citizens. The mistakes made then are still affecting the electricity department”.
Through these measures, the current government is addressing existing issues in the electricity system while providing appropriate relief to the people.
