Tensions in West Asia are escalating once again as Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz shortly after reopening it. The move is seen as a response to ongoing restrictions and pressure from the United States. Iran has also indicated reluctance to continue further rounds of talks. Amid the tensions, Iranian forces reportedly fired at several commercial vessels, including two Indian ships. While one vessel managed to pass safely, another sustained minor damage. Following the incident, multiple ships either turned back or halted near the strait.
India has expressed concern over the incident and reportedly sought clarification from Iranian authorities. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated that pressure measures would continue until a broader agreement is reached. Iran, in response, warned that it is prepared to defend its maritime interests. Efforts to ease tensions are ongoing, with Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir playing a mediating role. Iran said it is reviewing US proposals, though differences remain unresolved.
At the same time, the United States has increased its military presence in the region, deploying assets including the USS Gerald R. Ford. Analysts believe the situation could further intensify if diplomatic efforts fail.
