India has summoned Iran’s Ambassador to register a strong protest after Indian-flagged merchant vessels were fired upon in the Strait of Hormuz, raising serious concerns over maritime safety. According to official sources, gunboats of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) allegedly opened fire on Indian commercial ships passing through the strategic waterway, forcing them to retreat. No casualties were reported in the incident.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed deep concern and stressed the need to ensure the safety and security of Indian vessels and crew in international waters. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met the Iranian envoy and urged Tehran to guarantee safe and uninterrupted passage for Indian shipping. The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions and has sparked concerns over global trade routes and energy supply, as the Strait of Hormuz is a vital corridor for international oil transport.
