India and Russia have brought their new military cooperation agreement into effect, strengthening bilateral defence ties. Under the pact, both countries can deploy up to 3,000 military personnel in each other’s territories and establish operational facilities. They can also station warships and aircraft for logistical support.
The agreement enables joint military exercises, training programmes, and humanitarian assistance cooperation between the two nations. It was finalized ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India under the Reciprocal Exchange of Logistics Agreement (RELOS). Additionally, warships and military aircraft from both sides will be allowed to use each other’s airspace and ports, further enhancing strategic and defence collaboration.
