The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to introduce sick rooms in government schools to strengthen student healthcare. As part of this initiative, a dedicated room will be allocated in each school to provide basic medical support.
These sick rooms will be equipped with first-aid kits, essential medicines, and medical supplies. Students who fall ill or get injured during school hours can receive immediate primary medical assistance. The facility will function as a medical room, sick room, or nurse’s office.
In the first phase, the government plans to set up sick rooms in more than 600 government schools across the state. Funds for this initiative will be provided through the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, with ₹5 lakh allocated for each sick room.
The project is expected to be implemented by March 2026. Initially, selected schools will be covered, followed by a phased rollout across all government schools. Health awareness programs and medical check-ups will be conducted in coordination with local hospitals, helping create digital health profiles for students. Committees involving teachers, healthcare professionals, and parents will oversee the maintenance and functioning of these sick rooms.
