Allegations of private schools forcing parents to purchase specific private books have triggered widespread concern across the country. A surge of complaints has been filed with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), highlighting the burden placed on parents and students. Many claim that schools are mandating the purchase of costly materials, violating guidelines and creating unnecessary financial stress.
Taking serious note of the issue, the NHRC has issued notices to state governments, directing them to act in accordance with the National School Bag Policy. The Commission has also instructed authorities to submit detailed reports on the practices followed by private schools. It emphasized the need for strict action to ensure compliance and to safeguard the rights of students and parents.
