Significant developments are taking place in diplomatic relations between India and China. In this context, India has decided to resume tourist visas for Chinese citizens, which had remained suspended for the past five years. The Union Home Ministry has recently issued fresh guidelines in this regard. It may be recalled that tourist visas for Chinese nationals were halted following the Galwan incident.
The restoration of tourist visas is seen as a major step toward normalising relations with the neighbouring country. According to officials, visa issuance has now been permitted for citizens of both China and Hong Kong. As part of efforts to improve bilateral ties, restrictions have gradually been eased since last year. Direct flight services between the two countries have already resumed and the long-suspended Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has also been restarted.
