Tension gripped parts of West Bengal during the first phase of polling, with sporadic incidents of violence reported. In Kumargram, BJP candidate Subhendu Sarkar was allegedly attacked by TMC workers. He was reportedly punched in the face, creating panic at the polling location, even as police attempted to control the situation.
According to reports, the clash broke out when the candidate visited a polling booth for inspection and got into an argument with locals. Despite police intervention, the situation escalated, forcing Sarkar to flee the spot and run into nearby fields to escape the assault.
