Wipro has announced major changes to its hiring strategy, signaling the end of the traditional campus recruitment model. The company has limited fresher hiring to just 7,500 this year and stated that it has set no recruitment target for the 2027 financial year. According to the company, many tasks that were previously handled by fresh graduates are now being managed through automation driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Speaking on the shift, Saurabh Govil said the company is now moving toward an “AI-First World.” He noted that revenue growth no longer requires large-scale hiring as in the past. He also made it clear that the era of offering jobs in the thousands for the Class of 2026 is coming to an end.
Going forward, Wipro plans to recruit AI-ready talent through 50 specialized Centres of Excellence. The company will place greater emphasis on practical skills and project portfolios rather than high academic scores or degree certificates. Wipro indicated that in the new IT landscape, a degree alone may not be enough without the ability to work with AI tools and technologies. The company’s message is clear: continuous upskilling will be essential to secure future opportunities.
