

irport infrastructure and operations major GMR Group is planning to expand its international presence by pursuing opportunities in airport operations and allied businesses across West Asia, Central Asia, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. GMR Group Chairman G.M. Rao said in the company’s 2025-26 annual report that demand for air travel is growing rapidly, particularly in emerging markets. The group currently operates an airport in Indonesia and is developing another airport in Greece.
GMR is also focusing on asset-light and capital-light businesses that require relatively lower investment. The company plans to expand operations across duty-free retail, cargo services, retail outlets, food and beverage segments, and operations and maintenance contracts. In 2025-26, GMR-operated airports in India served 114.6 million passengers, accounting for 25.6% of domestic and 33.9% of international air traffic. The group currently operates six airports in India, including Hyderabad and Delhi, and reported a consolidated net profit of ₹472 crore in 2025-26. GMR has also expressed its readiness to participate in the bidding process for 11 regional airports proposed for privatisation by the Centre.
