Concerns are growing over the misuse of social media, with some individuals allegedly turning platforms like YouTube into tools for blackmail and sensationalism. In recent incidents, baseless allegations were made against temple prasadam, hurting the sentiments of millions of devotees and raising serious questions about accountability on digital platforms.
Videos claiming contamination in sacred offerings at major temples have recently gone viral. One such case involved allegations of a snail found in the prasadam of Simhachalam Appanna, while another video earlier claimed the presence of an insect in the laddu prasadam at Bhadrachalam. These claims caused widespread outrage among devotees.
Following an inquiry, Simhachalam temple authorities revealed that the allegations were fabricated. The YouTuber involved reportedly acted out of personal resentment after not receiving due attention at the prasadam counter. Investigators found that he had brought a snail from outside, placed it in the prasadam, and recorded a misleading video. When questioned by officials, he admitted his wrongdoing and deleted the video. MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao confirmed that the viral clip was pure misinformation.
Similarly, authorities at the Bhadrachalam temple clarified that the laddu prasadam controversy was also based on a fabricated video aimed at tarnishing the temple’s reputation. The temple’s executive officer has filed a complaint with the police, seeking strict action against those responsible for spreading false propaganda.
Devotees have strongly demanded stringent legal action against individuals who deliberately attempt to defame temples and desecrate the sanctity of prasadam. Many fear that leniency in such cases could encourage similar attacks on other temples and sacred traditions in the future.
