For the first time in Telangana, the state government officially announced that Maoist leader Ganapati @ Muppala Lakshman Rao would be encouraged to surrender. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy personally called upon him to come forward, emphasizing that the security arrangements for the process would be managed efficiently. Officials confirmed that this move has effectively ended the official presence of the Maoist State Committee in Telangana. According to DGP Shivadhar Reddy, if Ganapati surrenders, the Telangana government will take full responsibility for his security and welfare.
So far, Telangana police have successfully facilitated the surrender of 721 Maoists, recovering 266 weapons from them. It has been noted that 7 Maoists from Telangana remain unaccounted for. The central committee currently has three members, of which two are identified as belonging to Telangana.
On this occasion, 130 Maoists who surrendered handed over 124 firearms and 5,205 rounds of ammunition. DGP Shivadhar Reddy stated that the government will take complete responsibility for the security, management of weapons and health of the surrendering Maoists. He emphasized that this marks a significant and peaceful phase in the ongoing surrender process.
