Visakhapatnam is set to mark its place on the global technology map with the establishment of a massive AI data center by Google. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone for the project on April 28 at Tharluvada in Visakhapatnam district. With an investment of $15 billion, this hyperscale AI data center will have a capacity of 1 gigawatt, making it one of the largest foreign direct investments in India’s technology sector and a landmark project in Asia.
The project is expected to transform Visakhapatnam into a key digital gateway for the region. Supported by subsea cable connectivity, the city will gain direct links with global data networks, enabling advanced AI cloud infrastructure and large-scale data storage capabilities. The initiative aligns with the state government’s focus on accelerating investments through ease-of-doing-business policies, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a competitive destination for global tech companies.
Spread across nearly 600 acres in Tharluvada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli, the project will involve partnerships with firms such as AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra. Beyond infrastructure, it is expected to generate significant employment in fields like artificial intelligence, cloud operations, cybersecurity, and data science. With additional investments likely in power systems, cooling technologies, and semiconductor ecosystems, Visakhapatnam is poised to evolve from a port city into a global data and AI hub.
