The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has brought significant relief to FASTag users by discontinuing the 'Know Your Vehicle' (KYV) process for new FASTags issued to cars, jeeps, and vans (Car/Jeep/Van category), effective from February 1, 2026. Previously, delays in FASTag activation occurred due to the KYV process even after submission of all vehicle documents. Recognizing this issue, NHAI has eliminated the requirement. From now on, issuer banks will verify vehicle details through the VAHAN database or Registration Certificate (RC) before activating the FASTag.
For existing FASTags issued to cars, routine KYV is no longer required. It will be mandatory only in cases of complaints, such as improper affixation of the FASTag or misuse. This change will benefit lakhs of vehicle owners by making the process hassle-free. The KYV process previously involved uploading photos of the vehicle's front and side views, RC, and the FASTag sticker on the windshield. This inconvenience will now be eliminated.
