Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar revealed that cybercriminals have created a fake Facebook profile using his name. Through this fake account, the fraudsters have been sending messages to his contacts, pretending to be in danger and asking for money. One such message read, “I’m stuck in a problem, please send money.”
Unfortunately, one of his acquaintances believed the message and transferred ₹20,000, only to later realize it was a scam.
Sajjanar urged the public not to trust any message that asks for money, even if it appears to come from someone they know. He advised people not to reply to unknown links, suspicious messages, or unexpected video calls. Instead, he suggested directly calling the concerned person before taking any action.
He also appealed to the public to block websites that appear unsafe or suspicious and to stay alert about ongoing cyber fraud activities. Citizens can report cyber crimes by calling the helpline 1930 or by filing a complaint at the official portal cybercrime.gov.in.
