State Minister for Roads, Buildings and Cinematography Komatireddy Venkat Reddy criticised corporate educational institutions for turning education into a business by violating the Right to Education Act, which mandates reserving 25 percent seats for economically weaker sections. Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of Komatireddy Pratheek Government Primary and High School buildings in Bottuguda, Nalgonda district, the minister said it was a matter of pride to construct a government school with corporate-level infrastructure at a cost of Rs 8 crore through a foundation named after his late son Pratheek Reddy.
He expressed concern that every admission season, poor and middle-class parents plead for fee reductions, while some schools charge lakhs of rupees even for LKG admissions. The minister remarked that if he were the education minister, he would shut down corporate schools and ensure that all students study in government institutions. He recalled that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had sanctioned Young India Residential Schools in every constituency to reduce dependence on corporate education. Built on 2,500 square yards following the Waldorf teaching methodology, the school is equipped with 40 spacious air-conditioned classrooms, computer labs, yoga centre, library, STEM education facilities and smart learning tools, providing holistic and experiential education.
